Senior Eye Exam (over 65)

As we age and move to our golden years, our eyes become more susceptible to certain conditions and diseases.  The most common eye diseases in people over the age of 65 are glaucoma, cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). With early detection and treatment of these diseases, vision loss can be prevented, and the development of certain eye diseases will be decelerated. Patients with diabetes should also be aware that there are eye conditions exclusive to that disease, such as diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema.

According to the Canadian Association of Optometrists, adults age 65 and older should visit their eye doctor every year. However, your optometrist may suggest you have your eyes tested more often if you have or are at risk for vision problems and eye diseases.

In PSN, we test your vision and scrutinize the overall health of your eye – the cornea, lens, retina, optic nerve, and macula. After your exam, we take the time to discuss all your test results. We make sure you can leave our store with a more detailed knowledge of your eye health, as the more you understand about your eyes’ condition and health, the better you will be able to protect and take care of them.

The government of Ontario covers the cost of annual eye exams for adults age 65 and over.
